This year we had the privilege of meeting the incredible Amelia, who is battling an unpleasant fate. The less than two-year-old makes everyone around her happy and we wanted to give back to her at this year's SkiTour. Thanks to you, we were able to do it with all our efforts, as we managed to raise 125,546 CZK for her. "The amount is absolutely amazing and I would like to thank everyone for it. Financing the treatment is difficult and we are very happy that the donated funds will at least partially help us to cover it," says her mother Veronika Balcarová.

During a joint meeting at the headquarters of the Kuře Pomozte dětem foundation, which drew our attention to Amy's story, we also talked with her mother about the specific use of our donation and the current condition of the little girl. "The most effective for us are neurorehabilitation, occupational therapy and craniosacral therapy", adds Veronika Balcarová. Amélie is gradually improving in her development, and recently she has even started to use the left side of her body, which until recently she did not know about and had no control over.Everything is moving in the right direction and we are very happy about that. We have also agreed that the family will share little Amelia's gradual steps with us, so we will keep you updated on how our little fighter is doing throughout the rest of the year.
We are honored to be a part of this incredible story that shows that sports and charity are not worlds apart. We will continue to do our best to bring visibility to the stories of those who deserve our help.

Is this your first time reading about Amy? The following lines will convince you that she deserves our help.

Amelia was born 5 days after her due date to happy parents and older sister Lili. She lived the first 2 months of her life as a completely healthy baby. Complications began when Amy lost her appetite. After she started vomiting as well, she and her parents went to the emergency room where the doctors discovered an unspecified inflammation in her body and improved her condition with a drip of fluids and glucose to prevent dehydration. The suddenly swollen eye also improved after the drip, so Amy's ailments were attributed to a germ brought in from daycare by her older sister Lili. After a week, little Amelia regained her appetite, everything seemed fine, and she and her mother left the hospital and went back home.

Two days later, however, came a shock. Amy stopped breathing, and CPR came on. Little girl had to be taken away by ambulance and the little girl then fought for her life in the hospital for 10 days in artificial sleep. The doctors' prognosis was not at all optimistic. They didn't give Amy a chance to survive even 24 hours, but she didn't give up, she showed the will to live and she fought back her own life. Awakening from artificial sleep went well, but after being transferred from the ICU to neurology, Amy was found to have massive bleeding in her brain and extensive damage to both hemispheres. The exact cause of the bleeding was never determined. As a result of the brain damage, she developed epilepsy, quadrihypertonia with right-sided predominance (muscle tension in all limbs) and central visual impairment, so Amy's eyes did whatever they wanted when she woke up.

The little girl loves to play with her older sister Lili and this also motivates her to exercise and train her eyes with special aids, regular practice of the Vojta method and a counsellor from the EDA Special Education Centre also comes to help the family. Amy attends various treatments, but these are not covered by health insurance and are therefore very expensive. Right now it is 2-3 therapies a week, but if Amy is smart, the length and frequency of these therapies will increase and so will the cost. One hour of neurorehabilitation and occupational therapy now costs 1,200 crowns, so in total the therapy costs about 240,000 crowns for half a year.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your financial contribution and for being directly involved in improving a wonderful child's life, which will now hopefully be even more filled with joy and happiness. Continue to follow us to see who we will be helping in the 2024 season. SKOL!
