NOVA FOUNDATION AND THE NEW ČEZ SKITOUR EDITION TO HELP MATĚJ

Eight-year-old Matěj, the oldest of three brothers, was born prematurely at 34 weeks and later had problems with breathing so intubation was necessary. Insufficient oxygen supply to his brain and sepsis led to further health problems and slower development. Just before his first birthday he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, in his case the spastic quadriplegia, plus later also epilepsy.

SkiTour organisers have been moved by his story and together with the Nova Foundation and the skiers they will help Matěj financially. What does it mean in practice? Each participant can contribute to Matěj when paying for registration. And since the registration for the new season is already running you can do it straight away at www.ski-tour.cz.

Thanks to rehab, therapy and the time- and money-consuming treatment Matěj has managed to make a great progress in his rehabilitation. He can turn over onto his stomach and back, he can get on all four, he can crawl wherever he wants. His motor skills are improving and he is able to play on his own. Even though his younger brothers are helping him, there’s a long way and a lot of work ahead for him to be able to sit down or even stand up.

The cost of treatment is high and a lot of it is paid by the family without a financial contribution from health insurance. Whether it’s the operations or rehab, Matěj’s parents wouldn’t be able to manage without the financial support of foundations and sponsors. These are the reasons why the Nova Foundation and the ČEZ SkiTour series want to help Matěj’s family to cover the cost of treatment as well as a personal assistant who is necessary for Matěj to be able to go to school and play with other kids.

The total cost to the family is in tens of thousand Czech crowns per month, sometimes even more. The family will be glad for any financial help that will cover at least some of the costs.
